indeland: Gewässerweg Jülich
Jülich
The Rur and the mill pond accompany hikers on this circular tour, which begins in the Renaissance town of Jülich with its numerous sights and historical monuments. On this hike, you can experience nature and history in a very small space. Jülich's townscape is dominated by the characteristic features of a Renaissance town with the market square in the geometric center, the straight, wide streets, the smooth eaves facades and the uniform roofs with individual dormers. Outside Jülich, the path leads to the moated castles of Overbach and Kellenberg, which are not accessible. The nature reserves on both sides of the Rur reveal the different phases of the river's development: natural, cultivated, canalized and renaturalized.
