Art and nature around Heimbach
An unusual art project was created in the area around Heimbach by the Northern Eifel Nature Park in collaboration with the Heimbach International Art Academy: In June 2015, six respected artists from the region spent two weeks creating works of art. Under the theme of "Man and Nature" and the curious gaze of art enthusiasts, they created seven sculptures, sculptures and installations that can now be seen permanently at the place where they were created, in nature.
The starting point of the 45-minute, 2 km long circular route is the tranquil village of Heimbach. Due to its population, it is the smallest town in North Rhine-Westphalia. Visitors will not be disappointed: with its quaint half-timbered houses and idyllic location on the edge of the Eifel National Park, Heimbach is the ideal starting point for excursions into nature. Before setting off on a hike, visitors can find out more about the national park and regional hiking trails at the National Park Gate. The walk-in radio play through a forest labyrinth is also worth a visit.
The hiking trail starts at the "Über Rur" parking lot. You will recognize the trail by the "Kunst im Busch" markings. There is a somewhat steeper ascent at the beginning, but then the route is flat and always on asphalt paths. Enjoy magnificent views over the Heimbach reservoir and Hengebach Castle, which will whet your appetite for further exploration. The castle, which is one of the oldest buildings in the Eifel, is definitely one of the highlights in the area. The impressive Art Nouveau hydroelectric power station at the reservoir, which still produces electricity today, is also well worth a visit.
Would you like to round off your excursion with a leisurely meal? No problem! Heimbach also has a lot to offer from a culinary point of view: Delicious meals, coffee and cake are available in various cafés, bistros and restaurants.
