Hiking route: Ruraue [27]
Experience nature in all its facets: Mountain, valley, forest, meadows, rocks and river. The all-inclusive nature package is served to you on the Ruraue [27]. Here you go! The moderately difficult hike takes you through the most beautiful natural sites in the area around Nideggen.
Short facts: You start and finish the route at the Zülpicher Tor parking lot in Nideggen. You will cover the 11.6 kilometers in around 3.5 hours. You can expect an ascent and descent of 308 meters.
Step by step:
Step 1 - From the parking lot, follow Bahnhofstraße and cross the L 11 country road. Continue down the path below the cliffs of Nideggen towards Nideggen-Brück. You walk through the colorful oak and beech forests via Gut Laach into the gentle valley of the Rur. From this section, you have a view of the famous Nideggen Castle: a beautiful photo motif for your hiking group.
Step 2 - In the valley of the Rur, let your gaze wander over the meadows and pastures. You are accompanied by the gentle sound of the water. The route takes you to the "Gut Kallerbend" restaurant. In the beer garden, you can fortify yourself with a snack and a cool drink.
Step 3 - After refreshments, you cross the Rur and then it's time to climb! But the effort is worth it. Spectacular red sandstone rock formations await you. You reach the Hindenburg Gate, which was formed around 220 million years ago from rubble and sand. You then come to the Christinenley rock plateau. From here you have the best view of the varied nature. Another group photo is a must.
Step 4 - Done! You return to Nideggen. Now you have time to take a look at the picturesque old town alleyways, half-timbered and red sandstone houses. Of course, you should not miss the reward after the hike: Finish the route with a cappuccino and a slice of cake.
The red sandstone cliffs pose a natural risk of falling rocks. Please keep your distance from the edges of the cliffs and do not stay below them. Observe warning signs and instructions to avoid accidents and protect nature.
