Stolberg

At first glance, the meadow's edge may seem almost empty. But "empty" just means: you have to be quiet and look closely.

For something is always moving among the blades of grass, flowers, and leaves. When the sun is out, butterflies flutter, bumblebees buzz, and small beetles scuttle between the grass blades. And when it rains, earthworms come out of the ground and disappear again as soon as it becomes drier.

For many insects, flowers and grasses are a mix of gas station and meeting point. They collect nectar, carry pollen with them, and thus help plants to form seeds later. The more diverse it is at the meadow edge, the more different guests appear – sometimes right at your feet, sometimes completely hidden.

Become a meadow researcher: If you look closely, you will discover various insect species and can observe them briefly. Where do they land? How do they move? And how long do they stay on a flower? But please only observe from close up and leave the animals in peace, so that everything remains undisturbed.
