Stadt Heimbach
Heimbach
Overlooked by the medieval Hengebach Castle, home to the International Academy of Art, lies the historic pilgrimage town in the Rur Valley. With its half-timbered houses, galleries, cozy inns and street cafés, the small town invites you to take a stroll in a picturesque atmosphere. Also worth seeing are the pilgrimage churches with their art treasures, Germany's most beautiful Art Nouveau hydroelectric power station, the Eifel Water Information Center and the National Park Gate at the railroad station. Many cycling and hiking trails intersect in Heimbach in the middle of nature reserves. Popular excursion destinations include Mariawald Abbey and the Rursee lake with boat trips and water sports facilities. Heimbach is recommended as a state-approved climatic health resort.
