indeland: Historischer Stadtrundgang Jülich
Jülich
Duke Wilhelm, who was responsible for the construction of the citadel and residential palace that still exist today, would still feel at home in Jülich today. The layout of its town center has remained unchanged to this day and represents an ideal Renaissance town layout from the 16th century. The French and Prussians, who also left their architectural traces, have not changed this. Today, Jülich has made a name for itself as a research city far beyond its borders and the research center is one of the leading facilities in Germany. In its institutes and competence centers, scientists investigate complex topics such as fuel cell development and biotechnology, structural change, quantum technology and Covid-19 research.
How to get there
From the Schlossplatz square in front of the citadel, the route leads past the Provost's parish church, across the market square, through the witches' tower and promenade to the Rur. Here you have the opportunity to explore the bridgehead and park area via the pedestrian bridge. The route leads back to the city center past the Evangelical Church of Christ and through the Zitadellengraben.
The starting point for all Jülich circular walks is Schlossplatz, on the corner of Kölnstraße and Schlossstraße. The "Historic circular route" through the city center is marked with a yellow (JÜL) sign. These signs are clearly visible at regular intervals on posts or directly on trees, especially before turns - in both directions. This means you can walk the circular route in both directions or start at any of the markings and return to the starting point after a while.
Hint
The paths are also suitable for cycling, so please show consideration for each other.
