Drover Heide

The Drover Heide lies at the transition from the Eifel to the flat Bördeland landscape and is particularly impressive in late summer with its bright blue-purple flowers. Vast areas of heathland, sparse grasslands and hundreds of ponds provide ideal living conditions for rare species such as the nightjar, natterjack toad, agile frog and tree frog. The area is also an important bird sanctuary and invites visitors to experience nature via circular trails and viewing points. After the end of military use, Drover Heide became a National Natural Heritage Site and is now owned by the NRW Foundation.
