Der Weberplatz – Symbol des Handwerks

Roetgen

Between the church and the town hall, the stone weaver holds his shuttle in hand, his gaze lowered. The figure represents the Roetgen weaver – a symbol of a traditional craft that has been at home here for generations.

The statue by Hermann Pier commemorates a time when looms shaped everyday life and cloth production defined work, life, and prosperity for over two centuries. It stands for the skill, diligence, and pride of the weaver families. At the same time, it makes the economic change visible. A change that began when the workshops fell silent and Roetgen had to find new paths.

Today, the Weaver's Square once again serves as a focal point in the village. From here, the route starts, and the monument recalls that era when manual labor and community were closely intertwined.
